Due diligence first

Choosing a platform is a financial decision. Advertising, influencer recommendations and affiliate links (including ours) are not due diligence. Use this checklist and verify answers yourself.

1. Is it regulated, and by whom?

  • Which legal entity will hold your account?
  • Which regulator licenses that entity?
  • Can you find the licence on the regulator's own website, not just on the broker's site?
  • Is the platform permitted to serve residents of your country?

2. How are prices produced?

  • Are prices sourced from external markets or generated internally?
  • How are OTC/weekend prices calculated?
  • What happens during feed outages?

3. What does it cost?

  • Payout percentages by asset and time
  • Deposit and withdrawal fees
  • Inactivity fees
  • Currency conversion costs

4. Withdrawals

  • Minimum withdrawal amount and processing time
  • Required verification documents
  • Conditions attached to bonuses (bonuses often restrict withdrawals)

5. Terms and conditions

Read the client agreement, especially sections on account suspension, dispute resolution and governing law.

6. Support and complaints

  • Is support reachable and responsive before you deposit?
  • Is there an external dispute-resolution body?

7. Your own suitability

  • Do you understand the products fully?
  • Is this money you can afford to lose entirely?
  • Would you be comfortable if the account went to zero?
